HEIC format files are not supported (jpg/jpeg and png formats are). Below is information on how to move from HEIC to JPEG.
New photos - change your Apple phone settings
Under Settings, go to Camera > Formats to switch to "Most compatible" mode. New photos will revert to the jpeg format.

If you are transferring photos directly to your computer, go to Settings > Photos and ensure that the "Transfer to Mac or PC" option is set to Automatic. This will convert the photos to .jpeg format at the time of transfer.
